The field of biodegradable polymers has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years, particularly in the context of sustainable packaging solutions. This paper reviews the latest developments in the synthesis, characterization, and applications of biodegradable polymers for packaging purposes. We begin with an overview of the challenges faced by traditional packaging materials, such as plastic pollution and environmental impact. The subsequent section delves into the mechanisms behind biodegradable polymer degradation, discussing factors like degradation kinetics, environmental conditions, and end-of-life recycling options. The synthesis of biodegradable polymers is explored, including techniques such as polycondensation, ring-opening polymerization, and enzymatic methods.
