Abstract

Genome editing technologies have revolutionized molecular biology and biomedicine by allowing precise and efficient modifications of DNA sequences. This paper explores the current frontiers of genome editing technologies, focusing on recent advancements and their potential applications. We discuss the evolution of CRISPR-Cas9, the most widely used genome editing tool, and its derivatives, such as CRISPR-Cas12a and CRISPR-Cas13. Additionally, we delve into the development of base editors, which enable the modifications of individual nucleotides without the need for double-strand breaks. We also highlight the potential of synthetic nucleic acids, such as DNAzymes and aptamers, in enhancing the specificity and efficiency of genome editing. Furthermore, we address the challenges associated with off-target effects, delivery systems, and bioethics in genome editing. Finally, we envision the future of genome editing technologies and their potential impact on personalized medicine, genetic diseases, and agriculture.
